Where do I start?
Basic classes are the best place to start. There you will learn the proper alignment of the standing and seated postures which are integral to the safe practice of yoga. Sun salutations are introduced. You will learn to focus on the breath and learn to modify in more challenging postures. Once you've learned the basic postures, and you feel you need more of a challenge, you can try the Level 1 class, which is an introduction to the primary series of Ashtanga Yoga, which includes modifications where necessary.
How often should I practice?
As much as you can! Beginners should try to attend at least two classes a week. We suggest learning the basic sun salutations, which crystallize the elements of the practice. Once you learn them, practice them often, even if only 15 minute a day. The more you practice on a consistent basis, the faster you'll notice results. With a dedicated practice of attending classes three or more days a week, you will see a change in your body and overall health.
Will my other fitness activities (i.e. weight training, running) erase the benefits of doing yoga?
Not necessarily. Yoga will enhance your other activities, whether they are physical or mental in nature. If it's physical exercise you're talking about, yoga will help keep you strong, aware and injury free.
